Saturday's forecast: One more day of soggy and cool before improvement begins Sunday
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Saturday, May 27th, 2023.
Oh boy, oh boy, is it a chilly and soggy one.
We’ll start Saturday with ongoing rain showers and lows in the low 50s.
It’s about 15 degrees or so below normal for this point in the year.
Persistent northerly winds and widespread showers will keep highs from rising much beyond the mid 60s in the afternoon.
To give you a general idea of just how cool that is for this point in the year, the normal low for May 27th is 66 degrees.
That is also the record low maximum temperature set in 1988.
The National Weather Service forecast for Saturday is 67.
So we’re going to flirt with that record low maximum while we start the day 15 degrees below normal.
Now winds are going to continue to be gusty through the first part of the day, and gusts to 40 miles an hour will be possible, especially in elevated surfaces and closer to the coast.
And so wind advisory goes for Berkeley and Charleston until 11 a.m.
We’ll see that wind begin to wind down a little bit throughout the day as the low pressure begins to move north, but still it’ll be a little bit breezy for a good bit of the day.
And we’ll keep that rain around for much of the day too.
We’ll start to see that begin to wind down in the evening as well.
Again, as that low pressure begins to move away, we’ll start to see a little bit of drier air begin to infiltrate in and break some of that up.
Now we’re going to start to get into some improvement as we head into Sunday, and it’ll run a little bit warmer.
We’re still going to have some isolated showers hanging around in the wake of the low, especially in the morning.
But we should see those highs get into the mid-70s as we start to see some breaks in the clouds.
Now granted, that’s still well below normal for this point in the year, but we’ll take mid-70s over mid-60s in rain any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.
And as we get into Memorial Day on Monday, we’ll return to the low 80s with a chance of a few afternoon showers and thunderstorms with an upper low hanging around.
Not expecting a washout though, and overall again it’s going to feel good to get back in the 80s, but still we’re going to be running a little bit below normal.
So overall folks, it gets better.
Just got to hang in there for one more day.
