Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Thursday, May 25th, 2023, as well as a look into Friday and the Memorial Day weekend.

We are almost there, but not quite just yet.

So Thursday is going to be another unseasonably cool day across the Lowcountry.

Cool high pressure will continue to be the main player across the area, but changes are coming.

Low pressure will begin to develop offshore throughout the day, and this will help kick out some gustier winds as well as possibly introduce some scattered showers across the area, beginning in the late afternoon and evening hours.

Friday’s weather should prominently feature shower activity, as the aforementioned low pressure system gets closer to the area.

We should see the rain peak later Friday into Saturday, but there’s still some questions as to where exactly the low will end up and its forward speed, so watch those timings a little bit.

One thing is clear though, temperatures will be well below normal on Friday and Saturday.

Expect highs to only top out in the low 70s with gusty northeast winds.

I’m thinking gusts to 30 mph will be possible, and this has prompted gale watches for the coastal waters, moderate rip current risk, and the potential for some high surf as well.

It is worth noting that the Hurricane Center is watching this, but right now it looks like nothing tropical is expected, and even if that did happen, it wouldn’t materially change the impacts.

That’s what matters ultimately, so don’t let that chatter distract you too much.

By Sunday, showers should begin to taper off somewhat and we should get some peaks of sun, as that low does begin to move well north of us.

Highs will top out in the mid to upper 70s, and winds will go back around to the north and northwest.

It still may be a little breezy, but overall expect those wind speeds to start to come down.

And finally, we’re looking at a much cooler than normal Memorial Day across the area.

Now, climatology tells us that the typical Memorial Day high temperature is around 85, but we’re going to fall a few degrees short of that.

We may not top out above 80 on Memorial Day.

So that will certainly be a far cry from when it was 100 back in 2019.

Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible, so we’re not expecting a washout by any stretch, but be ready to bring those outdoor plans inside just in case.
