Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Monday, May 22nd, 2023, along with a look at the upcoming week.

High pressure wedging in from the north will keep Monday reasonably temperate and somewhat on the cloudy side.

We start the day in the mid-60s before highs head generally into the low 80s.

Despite the cloud cover, rain-free conditions should persist for much of the day, though an isolated shower or two will be possible later in the evening into the overnight.

Looking ahead, the overall theme is going to be cooler than normal temperatures as cool high pressure largely remains in place.

Isolated showers will be possible from time to time, with a thunderstorm or two possible in the afternoons as upper level disturbances ripple on by.

Highs will generally run in the low 80s for much of the week, while lows will run in the low to mid 60s.

Normal highs for this point in the year are around 85 degrees, and we’ll fall short of that for the majority of the week, though we might reach back to normal territory on Sunday.

Finally, we have a tiny area of interest in the tropics.

As the great philosopher Taylor Swift once said, “‘Tis the dam’s season.” An area of low pressure east of the Bahamas is a very slight chance, about 10%, of becoming a tropical or subtropical cyclone in the next few days.

Development is highly unlikely, as wind shear should do a number on the system, preventing much in the way of organization.

Still it’s a good reminder that hurricane season is less than two weeks away, and that now’s the time to get ready.
